The Great Potato Uprising
words and music by Tim Noah and Creed Noah© 1989
Late one night there was a knock on the door
I stumbled downstairs to see what for
I looked high, then I looked low
There stood a little ol’ potato
“Excuse me”, he said as he sat on my shoe
“I’ve come to talk business with you!”
Well, I slammed the door, staggered upstairs
Jumped in bed and I said my prayers
I said, “Oooooooo I must be delirious
This ain’t happenin’ it just can’t be
Ooooooo, I must be delirious
Oh, Lordy have mercy on me!”
I pulled the covers up over my head
Heard little feet, but I played dead
I got the nerve to look again
And I nearly jumped right out o’ my skin
There was one tata’, two, three tata’ four
Marchin’ up the stairs, in through the door
Might’ve been a million of ‘em, maybe more
Sayin’, “We ain’t gonna take it no more!”
They came from down under the ground
And all that I could see
Was a whole lotta’ little biddy eyes
All of ‘em starin’ at me
Shoutin’, “Howdy, howdy hi! (Howdy, howdy hi!)
Howdy, howdy ho! (Howdy, howdy ho!)
Howdy, howdy hi! (Howdy, howdy hi!)
We’re the delegation of the potatoes!”
Ooooooo, they looked kind of curious
Sittin’ on my shoulder and on my knee
Ooooooo, it was mighty mysterious
What those taters said to me
“We been mashed, hashed, frittered and fried
Whipped, dipped, sliced and diced
We been scalloped, stuffed, baked and peeled
Now we don’t mind bein’ part o’ your meal
But don’t put garbage in the water, in the air
There’s a great big hole in the ozone layer
There’s no place left for a tater to hide
We’rte chokin’ on acid rain and pesticides
Oooooooo, the situation is serious
We’re warnin’ you human bein’s
Oooooo, the situation is dangerous
Don’t go messin’ with the nature of things
Shoutin’, “Howdy, howdy hi! (Howdy, howdy hi!)
Howdy, howdy ho! (Howdy, howdy ho!)
Howdy, howdy hi! (Howdy, howdy hi!)
We’re the delegation of the potatoes!”
They came from down under the ground
I thought you ought to know
We’re bein’ scrutinized by little biddy eyes
Now eat your po-ta….toes!
